From Windows Live Writer

Welcome to my (yet another random) blog post! Yes! I was almost involved in a car accident yesterday and I was driving =O. Yes, that picture up there isn’t to scale (as are most of my drawings… you can’t even fit my head into the car)…

Anyway, you might be thinking: “meh, Asian drivers can’t drive”. == While I agree SOME Asians can’t drive MOST of the Asians I know are alright. BUT! I was not at fault. In fact the other driver was completely wrong and INSANE!

So here’s what’s happened: Mum, my brother and I were in the car, driving to the city at night (we were only a few streets from home when this happened) and we come up to an intersection like this (we’re the silver car):

From Windows Live Writer

The car on the right is supposed to stop and give way (well that's what stop signs are for…)

From Windows Live Writer

So seeing that the car on the right had stopped and indicated they were turning left, I continue on at the same speed.

From Windows Live Writer

*Drives straight ahead past the car on the right*

And that’s when a speeding green car came from behind the black car and went onto the other side of THEIR road in attempt to pass the black car and pass the intersection (WITHOUT STOPPING!!!):

From Windows Live Writer

And there I was thinking I was seeing things… “Why is that car on the other lane… its a two way street…”

From Windows Live Writer

I don’t think that car knew I existed until well, we were basically next to each other!

So in drastic attempt to steer away from the car, I turned to the left to avoid them:

And in all that chaos, I had a brief look to my right to see how far off we were from hitting:

From Windows Live Writer

I was so shocked to see that their bonnet was right next to my door! Luckily, we narrowly escaped collision. If we were to have hit I think I wouldn’t be typing this up to share!

After a deafening screech of the brakes, we were glad to see we were alive… The green car have steered to their left to avoid collision too (thankfully):

From Windows Live Writer

After realising what had happen, I turned to look over my shoulder to see if that car had stopped. Obviously, I was ranting about what had happened in while turning to look (As I always do).

From Windows Live Writer

When I finally found where they were, I saw that they had stopped to see if there had been collision. Seeing they were still there, I sounded my horn to let them know I was going to get off and talk to them (more like rant at them and tell them how shit drivers they are). But before I could get off to do ANYTHING, they drove off ==

So since I was going to get off the car, I checked to see if there was any damage (we heard the car brakes creak under the sudden stopping and thought it might have been something else).

As mentioned, there were no damages.

THAT is clearly WRECKLESS DRIVING. They were putting heaps of peoples lives at risk (us, the black car and themselves). They drove past a stop sign without stopping, they drove on the other side of the rode AND they were speeding!

I’m glad no-one was hurt =) but hope nothing like this happens again! So after another lengthy post… what do you think? COMMENTS PLS!:

I have an exam tomorrow, so I need to get back to studying == see you soon!

From Windows Live Writer

Welcome to my series of irregular blog posts! Its all because of exams, like I said, so I’ll be doing blogs whenever I have time.

But the good news is there’s only one left!! I don’t like how my exams have went so far. I can’t say how well I’ve done, or how bad because I honestly don’t know myself. I haven’t been able to finish all the questions, but that's a common thing that's happened in all previous exams.

I’ve missed roughly a third for all exams so far and that’s why I’m worried, cause there is definitely NO WAY I can get everything I have done right… So now I’m worried about failing =(

From Windows Live Writer

Now to that Shittyrail  Cityrail rant

I’m sure we all agree that we’ve pretty much never liked Cityrail, its inefficient, bad conditioned and in general: crap. But all this has been very “general”, honestly, I’ve only ever experience a major delay ONCE in my memory. Sure this is probably line dependant, but I wouldn’t completely hate Cityrail from this experience.

But on my way to my Structural Mech exam on Tuesday (15th), things got much more personal, meaning I was the one to feel the shitiness of Cityrail, first hand.

So I was lining up to buy a return ticket, and then a new counter was open. So naturally, a bunch of people at the end of adjacent lines went to the new counter (me inclusive).

So when I got to the counter, I saw it was this poof I’ve had a bad experience before. Out of instinct, I said I wanted a weekly ticket to redfern instead of a return and handed him a $5 note.

Then this happens:

From Windows Live Writer

Literally, he waved the note in my face from behind the glass. I mean, sure, I made a mistake saying weekly. But you could have just said either: “$5 isn’t enough for a weekly, its $15.50” or “Did you mean a return?”. Not stand up and wave the note in my face.

I kinda didn’t notice I said weekly cause I normally buy weekly. So I just apologised and admitted that I did mean a return. And he just kept making a face of disgust and mockery…

I mean shit dude, you just opened a new window for less than 5 minutes and your moody already? What are you like at the end of the day? A female tyrannosaurus with PMS or something? he was lucky he had glass between him and me otherwise:

From Windows Live Writer

Nah, Jokes, you know I’m not a violent person and in reality this is what I do:

From Windows Live Writer

Yep, say sorry, walk away and dip my head in shame…

So then I sat in the train, thinking of how I should structure my complaint letter… I came up with a couple of good phrases, and there was a brief structure but that was it. Then It was the exam =(… yea bad way to start the day.

So after the exam, I went onto the Cityrail website to look for a contact address, but to my surprise, they had a online complaint form you could fill out (probably there cause heaps of people complain… like me)

So I typed up the story with my first experience (I've tried avoiding this particular staff member, but I didn’t know it was him on the day cause of the long line) with that poof and that incident, and sent it to Cityrail and demanded that I wanted a response (not just, whinge whinge whinge, and no response. No point if your not getting a response really.).

Obviously, I wasn’t expecting like a years worth of free rides or like 1 mill in “mental compensation”, I just wanted to let them know that that type of attitude should not be anywhere near customers.

So just before getting these pics and blog typed up, Cityrail customer relations replied to my complaint:

Dear Mr Ho,

Thank you for your feedback regarding staff behaviour on 15 June 2010.

I was most concerned to read about the behaviour of a CityRail staff member at Hurstville Station, and apologise for any offence caused.

RailCorp has a Code of Conduct which clearly outlines the minimum standards of behaviour expected of all employees in the performance of their duties. RailCorp takes action with any employee found to have breached the Code, which may include performance-counselling and disciplinary action.

Customer feedback provides a valuable means for us to monitor staff performance, and I can assure you that I have brought this matter to the attention of the station's Customer Service Manager for review and action.

If you wish to discuss this matter further please contact me directly on (02) 8922 0404, and quote case file reference number 5670141.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Yours sincerely,
Priscilla Rees
Case Manager
RailCorp Customer Relations

So basically, its just the people apologising for what has happened. But I’m a little curious on what “disciplinary action” means (but you know, “which may include” doesn’t mean it will happen) … Either way, I just hope that staff member has learnt his lesson. I mean, the other staff working at the same time, same place all have a better attitude than you. I can’t find any reason why you should be bad tempered and impolite. Sure, you don’t have to be all cheery, talkative or hyper, but at least be normal!

Just for fun, here are some of my favourite lines from my complaint letter:

“I did not ask for his name or details, nor did I want to ask due to his rude attitude.”

“If this staff member cannot come to work with a nice and polite attitude, he should not come to work at all.”

“I want this staff member to know that this type of customer service is appalling and downright rude. I hope he will learn from this feedback form that he should be more patient and polite if he were to continue in any job requiring customer service.”

So that brings me to the end of this blog and rant. I must say, my blog posts are much longer when I rant! My last exam is on the 23rd, I might be able to throw in another blog between now and then. Hope all goes well! COMMENTS PLS!

From Windows Live Writer

I think my “weekly” posts have screwed up a bit. But that doesn’t matter. As long as I have post coming right? Anyway, I’m sure you know the world cup started today.

I’m not a soccer person, not really a “sport” person in general. So to be honest, I don’t know much about the FIFA world cup. All I know is its soccer.

I wasn’t the best soccer player in high school PE class:

From Windows Live Writer

Yea… I wasn’t the Goalie either. Imagine the faces of my team-mates.

Anyway, that aside, I hope you enjoy the world cup more than me (I can’t really relate to it or get it). But since I live in Australia, I’ll guess I’ll be supporting the Socceroo’s.

Hope you guys have fun and a safe long weekend! I’ll will be lifelessly studying… COMMENTS PLS!

From Windows Live Writer

I haven’t neglected my blog =) I’ve just been busy with UNI and haven’t had the time to draw up anything over the weekends. So if you’ve been sitting at home refreshing my blog to see a blog SORRY! (pfft, i don’t have fans like that…)

Anyway, I’ve been studying for this exam I had today…

From Windows Live Writer

I’m not the most dedicated and efficient studier thanks to facebook and the internet in general… But I do get frustrated at myself for getting distracted, but still do it. The weird weird things of UNI =S

Anyway, what’s more weird is when your in an exam and this happens:

From Windows Live Writer

See? You see a pattern! And when I see a pattern like the one above or a series of “A”’s or “B"’s it starts to make me panic because I think: “There’s no way that they’ll make the answers look so pretty” and then you get paranoid at that pattern… thinking you’ll end up getting everything wrong.

I can’t say definitely how well I’ve done for this exam, but I left out 2 or 3 question that I couldn’t do. I want to pass this unit of study!!!

Now the other part of the blog: The new Iphone 4

In other news =P, The new iphone 4 was announced to day and overall, its very underwhelming.

I like the look of apple products, but that's about it. I do however, get really annoyed by its marketing and advertising.

Just take a look at the press release:

“images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic than ever before on an electronic display.”

I would definitely praise their new high res screen =) It does look gorgeous in pics so far

“iPhone 4 is the thinnest smartphone ever–9.3 millimeters”

Wow that's impressively thin =)

“The front and back are made of aluminosilcate glass, chemically strengthened to be 30 times harder than plastic, more scratch resistant and more durable than ever”

That sounds industrial and all pro =) I’ll pass you on that one…

“iPhone 4 is the best mobile device ever for games and entertainment”

If you’ve played close attention to all these quotes, all of them that bla bla bla “ever”… That gets so freaking annoying. I know it makes the device sound high end and all but can’t you find better phrases or words?

If I was my english teacher from high school this would have FAILED from excessive repetition.

Not only that, the specs of the phone itself aren’t that surprising.

1Ghz processor from the Ipad on a mobile phone: That’s not anything new, Android’s and Win Mob has been using the 1Ghz snapdragon for a while

5Mp cam, flash and HD recording: That’s definitely even more “not new”, phones from Sony ericsson, LG, Samsung have all had 5Mp cams or more for ages. Sure, Megapixel count isn’t always a good indication of quality, but if Apples going to boast about a 5MP, it needs to know that there are plenty of good camera phones out there (with HD recording too)

Video calling: If i recall correctly, in the intro video they said it makes communicating with family members and friends more intimate and is the “best ever” way to communicate(once again). If not exactly, its similarly phrased. Even if the quote is wrong, video calling has been around for ages too. Although i never used it on my phone, it unfortunately will become popular cause Apple has made it “magical and revolutionary” as always.

Multitasking: Its kind of funny how in previous Iphones they make it seem like its not a necessity and say its bad for battery life etc etc. Now they implement it and call it a new feature and make it sound all awesome and stuff. See dodgy marketing again >=(

That new OS looks very coarse and unrefined compared to previous version. it seems to be a quick “lets throw all the new things in” job. Must be that crappy looking waterdrop wallpaper thing =(

Here’s what happens when a customer know all the specs of the new iphone goes into the apple store:

From Windows Live Writer

Customer: Hi, what’s new about the new iphone 4?

From Windows Live Writer

Customer: Don’t new android phones have that already?

From Windows Live Writer

Customer: The nexus one has a second mic and most of the features you’ve talked about already, there’s isn’t anything completely new in the Iphone beside the high res screen and gyroscope right?

From Windows Live Writer

*Customer walks away*

Unfortunately even with all its underwhelming features, Apple will still sell heaps of iphones. I have to say its almost created a religion. Iphone users get so defensive when you say a phone is better than theirs. Kind of like when someone says god does not exist. You know… its a touchy subject.

For now, I will be happy with my Nexus one =) its definitely on par with the Iphone(s). This is all my personal opinion though, you can still by an iphone, but i thought I’ll let you into how i see it.

That brings me to the end of the lengthy blog (LOL rant more like). I’ve still haven’t finished my daily grind comic, but progress is 50% more or less. I should be able to get a comic done this weekend and the week after, but we’ll see. I also know my drawings seem a little off in the proportions, I was trying to use a finer tipped pen and that didn't work out well… and i haven't drawn in a while… COMMENTS PLS!:
